Ear Infections Are Among the Most Common — and Most Preventable — Problems in Dogs.
The ear canal in dogs is shaped differently from humans — a long vertical canal that traps moisture, wax, and debris more easily. Without regular cleaning, this creates ideal conditions for yeast and bacterial infections to develop. For cats, ear mites are a common culprit, particularly in outdoor cats and multi-pet households.
Routine cleaning removes the build-up before it becomes a problem. For dogs prone to recurring infections, regular maintenance is one of the most effective preventative steps an owner can take.
Head shaking
Frequent head shaking is often the first sign of ear discomfort or irritation
Scratching at ears
Persistent scratching or pawing at one or both ears indicates irritation inside
Unpleasant odour
A yeasty or foul smell from the ears is a common sign of infection or excess wax
Discharge or redness
Dark discharge, redness, or swelling inside the ear canal requires prompt attention
Two Products. Prevention and Treatment Covered.
Our ear care range covers both ends of the spectrum — routine maintenance to prevent problems building up, and antiseptic treatment for when minor infections or irritation occur.

Some Breeds Need More Regular Ear Care Than Others.
The shape of the ear canal and the amount of hair around it vary significantly between breeds. Dogs with long, floppy ears or those that love water are particularly prone to ear problems — regular cleaning is especially important for these breeds.
Spaniels
Long, heavy ears trap moisture and restrict airflow — one of the most ear-prone breeds
Labradors & Retrievers
Love of water combined with floppy ears makes regular cleaning essential
Poodles & Doodles
Hair growth inside the ear canal traps debris and can lead to chronic infection
Basset Hounds
Extremely long ears with limited ventilation — among the highest risk breeds
A Simple Routine That Takes Under Five Minutes.
Most dogs and cats can be conditioned to tolerate ear cleaning if introduced calmly and consistently. Here's the basic process.
Inspect before you clean
Check both ears for redness, swelling, excessive discharge, or strong odour. If you see any of these, use the antiseptic drops and contact your vet if symptoms don't improve within a few days.
Apply the ear cleaning solution
Gently hold the ear flap upright and apply the ear cleaner into the canal as directed. Don't insert the nozzle too deeply — the solution should flow freely into the canal.
Massage the base of the ear
Hold the ear flap down and massage the base of the ear gently for 20–30 seconds. You should hear a squelching sound as the solution loosens debris in the canal.
Let them shake, then wipe
Allow your pet to shake their head — this brings loosened debris to the outer ear. Use a soft cloth or cotton wool to gently wipe the outer ear canal. Never use cotton buds inside the ear.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I clean my dog's ears?
For most dogs, once every two to four weeks is sufficient. Dogs with floppy ears, those that swim regularly, or breeds prone to ear infections may benefit from weekly cleaning. If in doubt, ask your vet at your pet's next check-up.
When should I use the ear cleaner vs the antiseptic drops?
Use the ear cleaner for routine maintenance — regular cleaning to remove wax and debris and keep the ear canal healthy. Use the antiseptic ear drops when you notice signs of minor infection or irritation — discharge, redness, odour, or your pet scratching persistently at their ear.
My pet hates having their ears touched — what should I do?
Introduce ear handling gradually. Start by simply touching the outside of the ear and rewarding with a treat. Over several sessions, progress to lifting the ear flap, then applying a small amount of solution. Patience and positive reinforcement make a significant difference.
When should I see a vet rather than treating at home?
If your pet is in significant pain, has a large amount of dark discharge, the ear is very swollen, or symptoms don't improve within 3–5 days of home treatment, please book an appointment. Severe or chronic ear infections often require prescription treatment.
Are these products suitable for cats?
Yes — both products are suitable for cats as well as dogs. Cats tend to have fewer ear problems than dogs, but ear mites and minor infections do occur, particularly in outdoor cats. The same cleaning approach applies, though cats may require more gradual introduction.
