Nurse Consultations

Expert care for your pet from our qualified veterinary nurses — affordable, thorough, and focused entirely on your pet’s comfort and wellbeing.

Just £20 per appointment Book Now

Our veterinary nurses are highly trained professionals who can handle a wide range of routine and ongoing care — often without the need for a full vet appointment. Whether it’s a quick nail clip, a weight check, or administering a long-term injection, a nurse consult is the fastest and most affordable way to keep your pet healthy between vet visits. All nurse consultations are £20 and include a full review of your pet’s needs.

What Our Nurses Can Do

A full range of nursing care — no referral or vet appointment needed.

Nail Clips

Overgrown nails can cause discomfort and affect your pet’s posture and mobility. Our nurses will trim claws quickly and safely — especially helpful for nervous pets who need a calm, gentle approach.

Anal Gland Expression

Scooting, licking, or a fishy smell are classic signs of anal gland discomfort. Our nurses can safely express anal glands and advise on diet or supplements to reduce recurrence — keeping your dog comfortable long-term.

Post-Operative Checks

After surgery, our nurses monitor wound healing, check sutures, and assess your pet’s recovery progress. These checks are included as part of your pet’s surgical aftercare and ensure any concerns are caught early.

Weight Management

Obesity is one of the most common and preventable health issues in pets. Our nurses provide personalised diet plans, portion guidance, and exercise advice to help your pet reach and maintain a healthy weight safely and gradually.

Puppy Socialisation Visits

Positive early experiences at the vets reduce anxiety for life. Our nurses invite young puppies in for friendly, no-pressure visits — treats, gentle handling, and a relaxed introduction to the practice before anything clinical is needed.

Bandage Changes

Wounds and dressings need regular attention to heal properly. Our nurses handle bandage removal, wound assessment, and fresh dressing application — supporting recovery from injuries, lacerations, and post-surgical sites.

Long-Term Medications & Injections

Ongoing treatments such as Librela (monthly pain relief for dogs with osteoarthritis) and other injectable medications can be administered by our nurses at each visit, with a welfare check included at every appointment.

Dental Health Checks

Our nurses carry out dental assessments, checking for tartar build-up, gum disease, and early signs of tooth problems. They can also advise on home dental care routines and refer to a vet if treatment is needed. Learn about our dental services →

Neutering Advice

Thinking about neutering your pet? Our nurses can walk you through the options, ideal timing, what to expect before and after surgery, and the long-term health benefits — giving you everything you need to make an informed decision.

Common Questions

Do I need to see a vet first before booking a nurse consult?

No — you can book a nurse consultation directly without a prior vet appointment. Our nurses are trained to assess your pet at the start of the appointment and will advise you if a vet needs to be involved.

How long does a nurse consultation take?

Most nurse appointments last around 15–20 minutes, though this can vary depending on what your pet needs. Bandage changes and longer medication reviews may take slightly longer.

Is the Librela injection available at every nurse consult appointment?

Yes. Librela (bedinvetmab) is a monthly injectable pain relief for dogs with osteoarthritis. Once prescribed by a vet, ongoing monthly injections can be administered by our nurses at a nurse consult appointment, making it easy and affordable to keep up with treatment.

Are nurse consults cheaper if I have a Companion Plan?

Even better — Companion Plan and Companion Plus Plan members receive free nurse consultations as part of their membership benefits. Learn more about our health plans →

Can I bring my puppy in just to meet the team?

Absolutely — in fact, we actively encourage it. Puppy socialisation visits help young dogs form a positive association with the vets before any clinical procedures are needed. These visits are relaxed and treat-filled, and our nurses love meeting new arrivals to the practice.

What if my pet needs treatment the nurse can’t provide?

If your nurse identifies anything beyond their scope, they will flag it clearly and arrange a vet appointment as quickly as possible. Your pet’s welfare always comes first, and the nurse will not charge a second fee for the escalation consultation.
