The working
A typical year, three ways.
An 18 kg dog. Booster, a year of flea and worming, two vet visits with a course of medication after each, a blood test, two nurse visits, two nail trims, and castration this year.
Typical corporate practice
Paws & Co, pay as you go
On Companion Plus
Paws & Co figures are from our published price list. Corporate figures are prices published by a large corporate-owned practice in Leeds, checked September 2026; where they do not publish a price, our own price is used. Flea and worming is shown at a typical annual cost for an 18 kg dog, medication at a typical course, and the blood test at a typical in-house panel. Want your own number? Use the calculator.
That’s £180 less than paying as you go, and £306 less than a corporate practice.
And if something bigger happens, an x-ray, an ultrasound, a lump removal, it’s already covered.
Before you join
The straight answers.
The parts of the terms people actually ask about, in plain English. The full terms and conditions take precedence.
No joining fee
Your first payment is your first month, or your first year. Nothing else up front.
It’s a 12 month plan
Plans run for 12 months and renew each year. That is how surgery, diagnostics and a year of routine care fit into one monthly price.

Medication, in detail
The first month of medication for any new condition is included. After that it is 30% off, for as long as your pet needs it.
Pre-existing conditions
Pets with existing conditions are welcome. Tell us about them when you join. They are not covered for treatment, but consultations are included and the medication to manage them is 30% off.
Specialist referrals
Referral to a specialist centre is not covered by the plan. If your pet ever needs one, we will help you find the right specialist at a competitive price.
Out of hours
Emergencies outside our opening hours are not included. Our partner Vets Now Bradford (01274 722721) covers them, and VidiVet is free 24/7 for digital advice.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a joining fee?
No. Your first payment covers your first month, or your first year if you pay annually.
Why do dogs and cats cost different amounts?
Dogs cost more to treat: bigger doses of medication, larger surgical cases and more expensive parasite treatment. Companion Plus is £59 a month for dogs and £49 a month for cats, or £590 and £490 a year.
Is this pet insurance?
No. Insurance reimburses you for unexpected vet bills after you’ve paid them, usually with an excess. Companion Plus is a care plan with our practice: the treatment is included at the point of care, with nothing to claim back. Many members keep insurance for specialist referrals and out-of-hours emergencies, which the plan doesn’t cover.
What counts as a new condition?
Anything diagnosed after you join that your pet didn’t have before. The first month of medication for it is included, then 30% off. Conditions your pet already had when joining are pre-existing, and their ongoing medication is also 30% off.
Is neutering really included?
Yes. Castration and spaying are routine surgical procedures and are included on Companion Plus, along with pain relief.
Can I cancel my plan?
Plans run for 12 months. If you join online and haven’t used any services you can cancel within 14 days, and you can stop the plan renewing by giving us 30 days’ notice before your renewal date. See our Health Plan Terms & Conditions for full details.
What about out-of-hours emergencies?
They are not covered under the plan, but our partner Vets Now Bradford is in place to look after your pet, and every client has free 24/7 access to VidiVet for digital advice.
